Narrative
HAMILTON COUNTY, IN – A motorcycle passenger was killed Wednesday afternoon, June 12, as a result of a crash near Cicero that left the operator and another driver seriously injured.
The accident took place at the T-intersection of East 234th Street and Cumberland Road just after 3:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office indicates that an SUV was traveling northbound on Cumberland when they stopped at the stop sign before 234th Street. The SUV then began turning left onto 234th Street, at the same time a motorcycle, which had the right-of-way, was traveling eastbound and approaching the intersection.
According to deputies, the motorcycle operator attempted to brake to avoid a collision. However, the bike slid and rolled onto its side before striking the SUV. The SUV then appeared to overturn and come to a rest on its driver’s side in an embankment along 234th Street.
The motorcycle passenger, a Cicero resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene and later identified by the Hamilton County Coroner.
The operator of the bike, who suffered several major injuries, was rushed by airlift to Methodist Hospital, while the SUV driver was transported by ambulance to the same hospital for pain and internal injuries.
Deputies had the area roads shut down for an extended period, but by 6:00 p.m., the closure was lifted.
No charges have been confirmed at this time.
