Narrative
MARION COUNTY, IN – A 35-year-old man died early Wednesday afternoon in south Indianapolis as a result of a collision that Indiana State Police say was caused by a road rage incident.
According to a preliminary investigation, the man was driving when the incident led to gunfire. Officials confirmed that the victim was shot when his car crashed into a pond off Interstate 65 near County Line Road.
Details remain limited at this time, but the ISP said the victim was thrown from the vehicle before it landed in the water. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
ISP and IFD divers were at the crash site within minutes to search for other potential victims in the water, but did not locate anyone else. Troopers said no one else appeared to have been in the vehicle at the time of the wreck.
Two right lanes of the northbound interstate were shut down north of Greenwood for an investigation into how the road rage incident is connected to the collision. No charges or arrests have been confirmed at this time.
