Narrative

JOHNSON COUNTY, IN – Two people from Chicago, including a teenager, died following a single-vehicle crash Sunday, April 7, near Greenwood that left one person injured.

Indiana State Police said the accident unfolded on the northbound side of Interstate 65 at mile marker 96, six miles north of the Franklin exit and just south of Indianapolis.

ISP officials said a gold 2011 Jeep veered off the right side of the roadway and into a ditch before the vehicle’s passenger side collided with multiple trees.

Officers arrived to find a 52-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl unresponsive. Both victims, who had occupied the front and rear passenger seats, respectively, were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Johnson County Coroner’s Office. Their cause and manner of death was attributed to “multiple traumatic injuries” from the impact of the wreck.

The driver, who was described as “conscious and alert” following the crash, was transported to an area hospital for injuries considered non-life-threatening.

An investigation remains underway.
