Narrative

MARION COUNTY/HANCOCK COUNTY, IN – One person died Wednesday morning, June 26, due to a collision on South County Line Road near far east Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were dispatched to the scene at the intersection with Brookville Road (U.S. Route 52), near the Marion County and Hancock County line. The incident was first reported at about 6:30 a.m.

It’s unclear what caused the crash, but two vehicles were impacted, as well as a traffic signal pole that collapsed after being hit. Only the drivers were present at the time.

One driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the other driver was transported to a local hospital where they were listed in stable condition.

Indiana Department of Transportation officials said a section of U.S. 52 was shut down in both directions during the response and investigation.

Motorists were asked to avoid Brookville Road at Kitley Road. In addition, northbound South Carroll Road was blocked off at East Troy Avenue and the southbound side of the road was closed at west 300 South.

An investigation into the manner and cause of the crash was being conducted by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
