Narrative
WELLS COUNTY, IN – One person lost their life as a result of a two-vehicle collision Friday morning near northwest Blufton that left another person critically injured.
The Wells County Sheriff’s Department said the fatal wreck took place on State Road 116, northwest of County Road 200 West, at about 5:30 a.m.
An early investigation indicates an SUV was heading northwest on SR-116 when, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle veered past the centerline and entered the southeast lane. Moments later, it collided head-on with a southeast-bound truck. Officials said while the driver of the truck saw the SUV approaching in its lane, they were unable to swerve away in time.
First responders pronounced the driver of the SUV deceased at the scene.
The driver of the truck was rushed to an area hospital where they were last listed in critical condition.
Multiple area agencies joined the WCSD at the scene. An investigation remains underway.
